Choquequiraw hike in the land of the ancient rebellious Incas, full of mountains there is this magical walk. That begins in the heights of the Apurimac canyon, which is majestic. In front of us the Padreyoc mountain rises to the sky, the winding path going down and up, the slope to Maranpata seems impossible but steady and slow with fast heartbeat. Little by little Choquequiraw the hidden city is revealed that was one of the last refuges of the Inca resistance against Spanish rule with a strategic military location but even more sacred on top of the mountain flanked by two rivers.
The path after the Choquequiraw pass only shows us how small we are in the face of imposing nature since it seems to have no end, down the canyon the path disappears and appears in front of the ascent and is lost in the pass in Minas Victoria, conquered the second pass in the distance there is hope to see civilization again in Yanama a small village in the Andes, from where we can continue our walk the third step to descend to Totora and continue through the valley to Sahuyaco , later passing the town of Santa Teresa finally after walking 5 days you can see the silhouette of our destination Machu Picchu.
Tour Summary
After crossing Abra Choquequirao, the trail reminds us of how small we are in the face of the endless and imposing nature. The path descends into a canyon, fades away, and reappears at Minas Victoria. After conquering the second pass, we catch sight of the hope of civilization in Yanama, a small Andean village. From there, we descend to the third pass towards Totora and continue through the valley to Playa Sahuyaco. Later, we pass through the town of Santa Teresa, and finally, after 7 days of trekking, we glimpse the silhouette of our long-awaited destination: Machu Picchu. This journey humbles us in the face of the greatness of nature and rewards us with the promise of a historical wonder at the end of the road.
